'The worst thing is to lose a child - Heath Ledger was just our child'

Heath Ledger’s father has said he is “blessed to have Heath on tape” ahead of the opening of an exhibition looking at his life in Western Australia next year.

Ledger died in 2008, after years of critical acclaim for his performances in films such as Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight.

His father, Kim Ledger, helped with displays and donated personal items to the exhibition. He spoke to 5 live about his “spiritual and soulful” son.

He said: “People think he was in a dark state of mind, but he would have been the next Jim Carey – he was full of humour.”

“The worst thing in the world is to lose a child – Heath was just our child,” he told us.
