Formula One World champion Nico Rosberg spoke to 5 live Breakfast about how he understands why his Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton went against team orders to try and win the title.

Rosberg said: 鈥淲e have that base respect as we were friends back in the day, and that has remained. You can understand his perspective, as drivers, we are fighters, and he wanted to do whatever possible for the world championship.鈥�

Hamilton slowed the pace of the race in order to try and push Rosberg down the ranks, which could have led to him claiming the title. Rosberg, however, held on to 2nd place which was enough to win him the title.

When asked if he would have done the same, Nico added: 鈥淲e can just drop the whole discussion, it鈥檚 too hypothetical and a thing of the past.鈥�
