Ex F1 driver Chilton ‘blown away’ by Rosberg retirement
Former F1 driver Max Chilton says Nico Rosberg’s decision to retire from the sport five days after winning his first world title came as a “huge, huge shock” to him.
The 31-year-old German won his first world title on Sunday, beating Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by finishing second in the final race in Abu Dhabi.
"I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right," Rosberg said.
Rosberg won nine of this season's 21 grands prix, beating three-time champion Hamilton by five points.
“That is a huge, huge shock to me” said Chilton, who lined up against Rosberg while driving for the Marussia team.
“I’d love to know the reasons behind it.
“I know he’s had a kid this year and he’s started a family, that might be part of it, I’m sat on the edge of my seat here blown away,” he added.
