European Banks Hit With Huge Fines
Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse will have to pay a combined penalty of more than $12 billion to the US authorities
Two of Europe's biggest banks have been whacked with massive fines for behaviour that helped spark the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse will have to pay a combined penalty of more than $12 billion to the US authorities. We speak to Peter Hahn, the Dean of the London Institute of Banking and Finance; he also used to be a banker and a regulator.
The World Health Organisation says a new vaccine that protects against the deadly Ebola virus could be made widely available within two years. The results of trials conducted in Guinea last year show the vaccine provides 100% protection. We hear from Professor John Edmunds from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and was involved in the Guinea trial.
The link between religion and consumption hasn't gone unnoticed by food companies and retailers. Increasingly we're seeing religious food stuffs - marked as kosher or halal for instance - sold in many western supermarkets. So - how did kosher and halal become mainstream? Elizabeth Hotson has been finding out.
