Dad of groomed boy: Parents need to accept it can happen
A father whose 13-year-old son was sexually abused by a number of men he met online says parents need to “accept [grooming] can happen”, in order to do something about it.
It comes as new figures from children’s charity Barnardo’s show 297 of the 702 children they had supported in the last six months had been groomed online.
61% of those 297 children had been subject to physical sexual abuse and nearly 50% were exploited by more than one person.
This father told ѿý Radio 5 live’s Samantha Fenwick he thought his son was “just talking with his friends” on his laptop. By the time he realised the truth, his son had already been sexually abused.
