The moment Alistair Brownlee met his sporting 'hero' Michael Phelps
British triathlete Alistair Brownlee came second in the ѿý Sports Personality of the Year awards last night – but the real prize was meeting his “hero”, American swimmer Michael Phelps.
Brownlee called him a “hero and icon of all sport.”
He told Phelps: “winning all the medals has been incredible, but it’s been your story over the last four years that I’ve found fascinating.”
Phelps, the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time with 28 medals, wished Brownlee congratulations on snagging second place in the awards.
