Apart from working on the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics, director Stephen Daldry has never worked on television until now. He made his name on stage in 1992 with a production of An Inspector Calls so successful it remains a West End favourite to this day - and then shot into the Hollywood big league, receiving multiple Oscar nominations for his films Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader. Now he鈥檚 making his small screen debut with Netflix drama The Crown, which focusses on Queen Elizabeth II鈥檚 early reign.

It鈥檚 inspired by Peter Morgan鈥檚 stage play The Audience, which Daldry directed. Morgan has also written the 10-part series, reportedly the UK鈥檚 most expensive TV drama with a budget of 100 million pounds.
