Star of the Royle Family Ricky Tomlinson has said the character 鈥淣ana鈥� played by actress Liz Smith was 鈥渆veryone鈥檚 grandmother鈥�.

Liz Smith, who also played Mrs Cropley in the Vicar of Dibley, died aged 95 on Christmas Eve.

Ricky, who played Jim Royle in the sitcom, said Nana was 鈥渢he people鈥檚 favourite character.鈥�

He said: 鈥淲e used to take the mickey out of her something shocking, and you鈥檇 get it back double from Liz.鈥�
