CIA interrogator: Middle East would be better off with Saddam in power
The man who interrogated Saddam Hussein after his capture by US forces has told 5 live that the Middle East would be much better off if the Iraqi dictator was still in power.
Former CIA analyst John Nixon spent several weeks questioning Saddam in 2003. He told Afternoon Edition that he was convinced that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction, and that the invasion of Iraq was "something to be ashamed of".
Asked if the world would be a safer place if Saddam hadn't been toppled he said, "the region would be much better off... If people wanted to get rid of Saddam Hussein that was up to the Iraqi people."
