Cockerill sacking 'a sad day for Leicester Tigers'
Chris Jones, 5 live's rugby union reporter, says the sacking of Richard Cockerill is 'a sad day for Leicester Tigers'.
Cockerill was sacked by the Premiership club after nearly eight years in charge.
Jones said: "They’ve not won the title since 2013 and even though they reached the two semi-finals last year that’s not been enough to protect Cockerill.
"It has been coming for some time but it's still a sad day for Cockerill, a sad day for Leicester because this man has been a legend at Welford Road."
The former England hooker has spent 23 of the last 25 years of his career with Leicester Tigers.
Head coach Aaron mauger will take over on an interim basis.
