Golfer Andrew 鈥楤eef鈥� Johnston saw the most successful year of his career in 2016, becoming a fans鈥� favourite and rising from 220 to 86 in the world rankings.

He hopes to progress and play in America in 2017 after snagging his first European title and coming 8th in the Open Championship last year.

He spoke to 5 live about the origins of his unusual nickname, 鈥楤eef鈥�, which he says he鈥檚 had since he was 12-years-old.

He said: 鈥渁 friend told me my hair looked like I had a big bit of beef on my head, and that was it.鈥�

鈥淚鈥檓 definitely going to keep my beard - it shouldn鈥檛 matter what you look like to play sport, as long as you鈥檙e a nice person,鈥� he added.
