ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½less people trial contactless payments jacket

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½less people in Holland have been trialling a smart jacket that has been fitted with a contactless payment card system.

The coat was designed by a Dutch media company as a way of increasing donations to people sleeping rough.

The money can only be redeemed at an agreed homeless shelter for food, clothes or lodgings.

The contactless patch is attached to the front of the coat. Donations are fixed at one euro and people can tap their card on the patch up to three times a day.

Ole Christern, managing director for the firm, N=5, told 5 live's Phil Williams that the idea for the coat came about after realising that homeless people were suffering because fewer people carried loose change on them these days.

"We wondered how can we make it easier for people to help others who need it," said Ole.
