Is paracetamol as effective as we believed?
Paracetamol was first discovered at the end of the 19th century and has long been the first-line painkiller of choice. However, growing evidence suggests it is neither as effective or safe as previously thought for chronic pain. Dr Mark Porter speaks to Professor Andrew Moore from the Pain Research Unit in Oxford and practising GP Margaret McCartney about its efficacy and what alternatives we could use instead.
