It 'felt wrong' to let my husband decide to die

Debbie Binner's husband, Simon travelled to a clinic in Switzerland to end his life after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease.

"It felt a very difficult end to let go of somebody you love in that way" says Debbie Binner whose husband Simon travelled to a clinic in Switzerland to end his life after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease.

Speaking to 5 live's Adrian Goldberg, Debbie said the trip to Switzerland in 2015 was "full of fun" and that Simon "didn't have a moment's doubt" about his decision but that his death ultimately "felt wrong" to her.

"When you go with somebody you love so much to a death like this, a lot is a blur", she said. "I do remember him lying on the bed and just thinking: 'This isn't happening, this is so unreal.'"

The debate over the right to die has reignited after a 67 year-old man from Shropshire began a legal fight last week. The challenge by Noel Conway who has Motor Neurone Disease is the first since MP's voted against plans to allow some terminally ill adults to end their lives with medical supervision.
