ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ presenter: 'Leah Betts stopped me taking pills'
5 live presenter Emma Barnett has thanked the father of Leah Betts for releasing the image of his daughter dying in hospital because it stopped her taking pills.
The image of Leah Betts in hospital, connected to a life support machine, was one of the most harrowing to be shown in the British media in the 1990s. The Essex teenager had collapsed after taking an ecstasy tablet at her 18th birthday party in 1995 and died several days later.
Emma Barnett told Paul Betts, Leah's father: "I would like to thank you because I was so frightened by what happened to your daughter."
In a rare interview, an emotional Paul Betts thanked Emma for her message and said the photo of Leah Betts is still having an effect more than two decades on: "We are still getting messages from young people just saying 'thank you' because they were not aware. Because of that (image), they have never done drugs."
