Should schools teach children how to wash their hands?
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence believe schools and colleges should be playing a bigger role in teaching children and teenagers about the importance of washing their hands. They also say that to prevent the spread of infections, a proper hand washing technique also needs to be taught.
Professor Peter Hawkey, from the Institute of Microbiology and Infection at the University of Birmingham, told 5 live’s Anna Foster:
“If you think about it, no one ever taught us how to wash our hands. We miss bits of our hands, the backs and the thumbs, so actually learning how to do hand washing is a very important thing.â€
