“The whole fire just cascaded down the hill”
When wildfires engulfed the Canadian city of Fort McMurray in May 2016, 90,000 people were displaced and well over two billion pounds of damage was caused. It was one of the costliest natural disasters of all time.
Costing The Earth presenter Tom Heap visits Fort McMurray to meet local resident Christina McKay, reporter Briar Stewart and firefighters Nick Waddington & Pat Duggan. He hears how they reacted as the inferno rapidly engulfed their town.
First broadcast on Costing The Earth, 7 February 2017.
