A pen concealing a dagger? The real life spying tools going on auction
A collection of lethal James Bond style spy tools are due to go on auction this week, after a collector has chosen to sell his collection after 30 years. Matthew Tredwen, an auctioneer at C&T Auctioneers of Ashford, described to 5live a few of the different spy tools occupying the collection:
“In the sale we’ve got a collection of SOE related items and RAF escape and evasion. What you have is a pen, which conceals a small dagger blade, a key which again the top screws off to reveal a drilled hole that could be used to smuggle messages or even cyanide tablets etc. There’s a garrotte wire that was issued to commando and ESO units. There’s an RAF concealed button compass and an SOE assassination lapel spike.â€
When asked about what they would be used for, he continued:
“They will just be preserved, kept as historical items, all collectors are just keeping the history of the people that served in WWII alive.â€
