Former Rangers defender Terry Butcher offers his opinion on Mark Warburton鈥檚 on/off resignation as manager of the Scottish club.

Butcher, who played for Rangers in the 1980鈥檚 surmised: 鈥淚t鈥檚 just an absolute shambles just what Rangers didn鈥檛 need before the cup tie on Sunday. They play Morton, and the cup is the only real route Rangers have of stopping Celtic getting the treble this season.鈥�

While former Sheffield Wednesday manager David Pleat added: 鈥淭he whole thing鈥檚 messy and at the end of the day it just may be the directors say enough鈥檚 enough, the manager is a victim of his own ambition.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been done before when people have had talks to other clubs, it hasn鈥檛 developed but the club has decided that because that person was looking for alternative employment, they decided to release him.鈥�

Rangers said on Friday Warburton had resigned, but the former Brentford manager insisted he had not.
