Terry Butcher: Rangers situation is ‘an absolute shambles’
Former Rangers defender Terry Butcher offers his opinion on Mark Warburton’s on/off resignation as manager of the Scottish club.
Butcher, who played for Rangers in the 1980’s surmised: “It’s just an absolute shambles just what Rangers didn’t need before the cup tie on Sunday. They play Morton, and the cup is the only real route Rangers have of stopping Celtic getting the treble this season.â€
While former Sheffield Wednesday manager David Pleat added: “The whole thing’s messy and at the end of the day it just may be the directors say enough’s enough, the manager is a victim of his own ambition.
“It’s been done before when people have had talks to other clubs, it hasn’t developed but the club has decided that because that person was looking for alternative employment, they decided to release him.â€
Rangers said on Friday Warburton had resigned, but the former Brentford manager insisted he had not.
