Mum: 'My kid’s chicken pox pics used in cancer scam’
A mother has told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 5 live that scammers operating on Facebook are using pictures of her son’s chicken pox to pretend that he has cancer and get millions of likes and shares.
Three-year-old Jasper Allen was hospitalised last summer for five days with severe chicken pox after being turned away by a GP’s receptionist.
Speaking to Adrian Chiles, Sarah Allen, 36, the scammers are using photos of Jasper’s infected chicken pox sores to make money.
“The more people that look at it and share it, it gets more followers. Then they sell the profile to businesses.
Facebook told 5 live they are reviewing the links sent to them by Sarah and will investigate the accounts involved. On its website, Facebook says it takes intellectual property rights very seriously.
