Challenging the negative image of Stoke-on-Trent

How the people of Stoke want to be represented

Labour have kept hold of the seat of Stoke Central in the by-election. Today's reporter Sanchia Berg talks to people in the city about voting.

The city is often painted as deprived - according to academics at the LSE, full-time weekly earnings in Stoke are 24 per cent below the average.

Danny Flynn, the chief executive of North Staffordshire YMCA, says he rejects "the negative narrative" written about his city and Roisin Maguire, former head teacher at St. Joseph's College in Stoke, says that the negative press is unhelpful for the "incredible young people" she works with.
