Deported woman: 'I'll fight till the end'

Irene Clennell, who's been married to a British man for 27 years said she'll fight her deportation back to her native Singapore.

A woman who's been married to a British man for 27 years, and was deported back to her native Singapore, has told 5 live her removal from the UK was done "without warning". Irene Clennell, who has two British children as well as a grandaughter here, had been living in Chester-le-Street in County Durham, but since January this year, had been held in a detention centre in Scotland.

Speaking to 5 live's Tony Livesey, she said she'd been accompanied back to to Singapore by "four officials". It's understood Mrs Clennell had been given indefinite leave to remain in the UK after her marriage, but that had lapsed because she'd lived outside the country for more than two years. In cases like that, an individual has to apply for something called a Returning Residents visa if they want to come back to Britain.

Since returning back to her native country, she said she felt "in shock."

"All I want to do is get back to the UK to be with my husband and kids."
