Refugee charity finds £1000 stuffed in donated socks
The local charity Refugee Aid from Taunton received a big surprise a few weeks ago while sorting through donated clothing.
One unsuspecting volunteer found £1000 in a pair of old socks.
Avon and Somerset police are appealing for the socks' donor to come forward and claim the cash if it was handed over accidentally.
Founder Federica Smith told 5 live: "We've had a few anonymous donations previously, but only of small amounts where they don't want to take credit."
"We would hope it is a donation because what we can do with that is huge, but we're aware it could be a simple mistake and perhaps someone was clearing out someone's house and that was hidden in the sock drawer."
