The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s boxing correspondent Mike Costello analyses what factors will be biggest in determining the outcome of the Haye v Bellew fight at the O2 Arena on Saturday evening.
Speaking to 5 live Sport’s Mark Chapman, Costello said: “I do think ring rust is the single biggest factor in determining the outcome tonight. Nine years ago this weekend (Haye) beat Enzo Maccarinelli which was a similar grudge match, not quite as hostile in the build-up, but that David Haye would beat Tony Bellew comfortably but how much of that David Haye is left?
“On that night in particular, he was destructive with the right hand which has been a feature of many of his successes through his career. Since he’s been away he’s had major surgery on his right shoulder how much will that affect that destructive punch?
“He was out, in total, for three and a half years he’s had only two fights since the come back Mark and those were against men who barely had a pulse so it’s hard to gauge how much he’ll have left and that creates the kind of uncertainty that makes it compelling, I think.â€
WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew, 34, weighed in at 15st 3lb 8oz, lighter than 36-year-old Haye (16st 9oz).
