Making more room for female cartoon characters
Why are so few of the main characters in children's cartoons female, with those representing strong role models for young girls also scarce? On the eve of International Women's Day a campaign here in the United Kingdom called "It's Time to Get Animated" wants to challenge the number and the portrayal of female characters. One female cartoon character with plenty of personality is Lola from the "Charlie and Lola" animated series, based on Lauren Child's books. Dan Damon spoke its director, Kitty Taylor.
