Chuck Berry was a "magical man" who was "enthusiastic about life" according to his close friend Joe Edwards.

He was speaking after the singer's death at the age of 90.

Joe, who owns the Blueberry Hill restaurant and music club in St Louis, Missouri, became friends with Chuck Berry in the early 1980s after first meeting two decades earlier.

Chuck Berry used to perform on a monthly basis at Joe's venue.

Joe recalls Chuck asking for a pencil and paper on a visit to his home, and then sitting at the grand piano and starting to write a new song.

Joe says he was a "fascinating" person.
