Dame Vera Lynn: In her own words
In celebration of Dame Vera Lynn's 100th birthday, the PM programme has delved into the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ archives to find some of her early work.
In 1941, Dame Vera started her own radio programme; Sincerely Yours, broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Forces, to send messages to British troops serving abroad. She and her quartet performed songs most requested by the soldiers.
In this programme from 1942, she talked about going out to Burma to entertain the troops with "impromptu concerts" using "a few aeroplane engine cases to make a stage or on the back of a lorry".
