Tulip Siddiq says if someone performs “acts of terrorism” and says it’s in the name of Islam, they do not speak for her or “the majority of Muslims”.
The Labour MP for Hampstead and Kilburn said the man who carried out the attack on Westminster was “not a true Muslim” and “not representative of the Muslim community.”
Asked by Afternoon Edition’s Nihal Arthanayke how she would respond to anti-Muslim responses online, she said: “You can’t taint an entire religion, on one person.”
“We can’t be naïve – there will be a backlash – and it’s up to diverse communities in London – a city we’re proud to remain in – to come together and stand up for the genuine Muslim community here”.
