Animal welfare campaigners are calling on the Scottish government to impose a breeding ban on 鈥楽cottish fold cats.鈥� The felines have floppy ears, big eyes and prominent whiskers but because of a gene mutation they can be prone to severe health problems including arthritis.

The adorable cats have become popular amongst celebrities including Taylor Swift and Mia Farrow.

Sharon Comrie, superintendent for animal rescue at the SSPCA, told 5 live:

鈥淎s soon as any celebrities start to take on different breeds everybody wants them then, it becomes a fashion symbol.鈥�

However she also says that if they are 鈥渂red properly鈥� by 鈥渆thical breeders鈥� then there is 鈥渓ess likelihood to be so many health problems.鈥�
