Are prison officers actually getting a pay rise?

Only 5% of existing prison staff in England and Wales have received a new pay allowance

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has learnt that the pay rise announced by Justice Secretary Liz Truss in February for thousands of prison staff is benefiting just 1600 officers.

Glyn Travis, from the Prison Officers Association, says they want "fairness across the entire prison service" and Andrew Selous, former prisons minister, says the increase in allowances for "hard to recruit prisons" is very welcome.
