O'Driscoll tips Warburton to captain Lions

Former Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has tipped Wales' Sam Warburton to captain the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand.

Former Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has tipped Wales' Sam Warburton to captain the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand.

The Wales flanker led the Lions during their tour of Australia in 2013, a Test series they successfully won 2-1.

O'Driscoll said: "Gatland’s a big fan of Warburton, he knows what sort of captain he is but also I think Sam is the sort of character that if it didn’t go right for him and that he wasn’t selected for the Test he wouldn’t throw the toys out of the cot.

"The experience of doing it once before, how he’s currently playing and the respect that he’s held and the high esteem he’s held and I think that they all feature heavily in him being another good selection."

O'Driscoll captained the Lions the last time they toured New Zealand in 2005.

The Irishman also tipped fellow countrymen Donnacha Ryan and Sean O'Brien to feature in Gatland's squad

Gatland will confirm his squad on 19 April with the first game of the tour on 3 June.
