Depression sufferer 'Helen' says ketamine stopped her from taking her own life after she took part in a Ketamnine treatment programme. The study has found the drug helps some who haven鈥檛 responded to other treatments.

鈥楬elen鈥�, who has been having treatment for an eating disorder and severe depression for more than 20 years told 5 live Breakfast:鈥淚 was desperate to the point where I had absolutely made up my mind I could not carry on.鈥�

鈥淥ne advantage over anti-depressants is that it works very fast in lowering the desperation you feel. It saved my life, without a doubt.鈥�

Psychiatrists in Oxford who've treated just over a hundred depressed patients with ketamine say it should be used more widely by the NHS. They're calling for a national registry so that doctors who prescribe the drug.
