Christianity and politics - a match made in heaven?

Just how much has faith influenced political leaders in office

"God bless the entire world" - Donald Trump's words on the day he ordered a cruise missile strike on Syria. A phrase that would have been impossible for any politician to say in the UK. And yet Christianity has and does play a big, perhaps hidden part in our politics - Theresa May is the daughter of a Church of England vicar. Gordon Brown was famously the son of the Manse and Margaret Thatcher the daughter of a Methodist preacher.

A new book looks at 24 Christian political leaders in office from the end of the 1970s to some in power today and assesses how their faith influenced them as politicians. Matthew Parris is a former MP and Times columnist Ann Widdecombe is a former Tory politician.
