Global population growth: The optimistic view
The total global population currently stands at 7.4 billion people. The United Nations predicts that number will reach at least nine billion by the middle of this century. Many believe that this number is unsustainable. However, best-selling author and documentary maker Johan Norberg is optimistic about the projected growth. He believes that population growth has historically coincided with a huge increase in prosperity and education levels, setting free our natural instinct to innovate. He also believes technological advances will allow us to feed the extra mouths and clean up the planet.
