Newcastle's all-time leading goal scorer Alan Shearer says the club 鈥渃an鈥檛 stand still for anyone鈥� following their promotion back to the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez鈥檚 side secured an immediate return to the top flight courtesy of a 4-1 win over Preston at St James鈥� Park.

鈥淚鈥檓 sure he鈥檒l demand that the team has to be improved and demand a few quid to do that. That鈥檚 what we鈥檙e all hoping now because that鈥檚 what you have to do. You can鈥檛 be loyal and give all the players a chance that have got the team promoted,鈥� said Shearer.

Benitez was backed in the transfer market by owner Mike Ashley to the tune of 拢50m, but recouped over 拢80m from the sales of Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend.

鈥淚鈥檓 sure Rafa will go in and ask for funds to massively improve the team. I think people will realise that the team will need improving to get to the place where they eventually want to get which has to be the top half of the Premier League,鈥� Shearer concluded.
