Severe PMS undiagnosed for 20 years
Rachael was diagnosed with PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) last year - which is a severe form of PMS (premenstrual syndrome).
For most women symptoms of PMS can last a few days, but for someone with PMDD, they can last for weeks.
Rachael had suffered with PMDD since her teens:
“I’d start to over-think things, get very angry for no reason. I would not allow my partner out of the house.â€
She now takes a hormone gel to help manage her mood swings, and finds comfort in looking after horses.
“There’s been times in my life where I’ve quit jobs and it was horses that kept me sane.â€
Since using the hormone gel medication she said “I’ve had no suicidal thoughts since I started taking it… It’s greatly improved my life.â€
