A former Young Mayor of Lewisham has told 5 live he is 鈥渟o aware鈥� of the dangers of weapons in schools.

Knives, samurai swords, air rifles and an imitation firearms were among some of the two and a half thousand items confiscated in schools across England and Wales in the last two years.

Jacob Sakil told Rachel Burden "We tend to only hear about it when someone has died. I think it鈥檚 always that 鈥渢oo late鈥� feeling. We need to be in this conversation, talking to young people from the onset.鈥�
