Hammond responds to nurse living 'in fear'
The inflation rate rose to its highest level since 2013 last month, official figures show. Combined with low wage growth, it means many people are experiencing a pay squeeze.
Nurse and mother Cheryl told 蜜芽传媒 Business News it was hard "not to live in fear" about her household budget and feeding her family.
5 live's Rachel Burden put Cheryl's concerns to Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, asking: "Are you ashamed? To hear that nurse talking about living in fear and being panicked about feeding her family?"
The Conservative candidate for Runnymede & Weybridge responded: "Real household disposable incomes per capita in 2016 were at a record high and real wages are forecast to rise".
