The number of people using e-cigarettes in the UK is rising rapidly and you can see it all around you – there are new vaping shops on the high street and you can buy e-cigarettes in the supermarket. It’s a market that’s sprung up from nothing in the past ten years. The public health charity Ash says that three million people vape now, four times the number that did five years ago. There are worries about the safety of vaping, but most scientists agree that inhaling nicotine in water vapour is much less harmful that inhaling nicotine in tobacco smoke. Big tobacco companies are investing in e-cigarettes. British American Tobacco has its own brand called Vipe. Jess Quayle talks to the company’s Group Research and Development Director, David O’Reilly.
