Did you know that in France, it is possible to legally marry a person who is dead?

On the Champs Elysees in Paris in April, a jihadist shot dead Xavier Jugel茅, a police officer. The officer's civil partner, Etienne Cardiles has now married him, in a posthumous ceremony.

Andrew Smith is secretary of the Society for the Study of French History and he told 蜜芽传媒 Radio 4's PM programme about the origins of the law which allows this.
