Dawson: ‘Warrenball’ is a myth
Matt Dawson says the infamous ‘Warrenball’ style of rugby no longer exists.
Warrenball is a term used to describe British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland’s preferred style of play, but Dawson believes this is a myth.
Speaking during the Dawson and Mehrtens Rugby show, the former Lions scrum-half says: “I played Warrenball with Wasps, but I don’t see it now [with the Lions].”
Dawson believes the media are responsible for consistently attributing the term to Gatland and his teams, but admits he cannot see “what style of play” the current Lions side are trying to implement.
