Kirsty has had type 1 diabetes since she was five-years-old, so it鈥檚 important for her to be woken when her blood sugar levels get too low. Charlie is happy to oblige, meowing and patting Kirsty on the face until she wakes up. The 20-year-old feline has come to Kirsty鈥檚 rescue more than a dozen times, and is now up for a national award.

Kirsty told 5 live鈥檚 Tony Livesey:
