Grenfell Tower victim's brother heard final words over the phone
The first victim of the fire at Grenfell Tower in London has been named as a Syrian refugee, Mohammed Alhajali.
He first came to the UK in 2014 and was studying civil engineering while living in North Kensington.
The Syria Solidarity Campaign has said he "undertook a dangerous journey to flee war and death in Syria, only to meet it here in the UK, in his own home."
Mohammed's brother Hashim told 5 live's Emma Barnett how they spoke over the phone during Mohammed's final moments in the tower before he died:
"He was crying, he said Hashim please let me talk to my mum. My mum lives in Syria and I didn't contact her because I wanted to stay with him, I wanted to save him. I didn't believe the idea that Mohammed would pass away".
At least 30 people were killed in the blaze so far, with more numbers expected to be announced over the coming days and weeks.
