Why beer is a woman’s drink
Think beer. Think men with beards? Think again. The last time Sheila Dillon reported on the women in British beer, in 2004, there was only one woman in the role of head brewer in the country and women were drinking only a tenth of all the beer sold in the UK. Today that figure has nearly tripled and women all around the UK are turning to jobs in brewing. Beer sommelier Jane Peyton and Sheila Dillon talk about the history of women brewing, which goes back to ancient times.
First broadcast on the Food Programme, 12 June 2017.
