
James's story: Caring for parents with mental health problems
James has been a carer for his mum since he was 7. She has bipolar disorder, ME and hypermobility disorder. James looks after the house, cooks, cleans and makes sure his mother takes her medicine, with help from his ten year old brother.
5 live introduced James to ѿý Radio 1Xtra presenter Mim Shaikh whose mother has depression, forms of psychosis and panic attacks. Mim has been very open about his experiences with her in his spoken word pieces like “No Fathers Day” and Letter to My Mother”.
