James has been a carer for his mum since he was 7. She has bipolar disorder, ME and hypermobility disorder. James looks after the house, cooks, cleans and makes sure his mother takes her medicine, with help from his ten year old brother.

5 live introduced James to 蜜芽传媒 Radio 1Xtra presenter Mim Shaikh whose mother has depression, forms of psychosis and panic attacks. Mim has been very open about his experiences with her in his spoken word pieces like 鈥淣o Fathers Day鈥� and Letter to My Mother鈥�.
