US v UK food standards: A culture war?
A new report says imported food could threaten farm animal welfare standards post-Brexit
Cheap imported food could threaten farm animal welfare standards after Brexit according to a Lords report out today. Liam Fox who is in the US for trade talks said there's particular concern from campaigners around food imports.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s North America correspondent Aleem Maqbool reports. Lord Kerbs, a member of the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee and former chair of the Food Standards Agency, says the "concern" is that we cannot have it both ways - keeping our high welfare standards and creating trade deals with the US.
Chris Davies, Conservative MP who campaigned for Brexit, says British people do not want "chlorine-flushed chicken" and Tim Lang, professor of food policy at City University London, says this will create a "fight of a food culture".
