Monday marks the centenary of the start of the battle of Passchendaele

Monday marks the centenary of the start of the Third Battle of Ypres, more commonly known as Passchendaele.

In the three months of fighting, half a million Allied and German soldiers were killed, wounded or went missing.

Author of Epitaphs of the Great War: Passchendaele, Sarah Wearne, and chief historian at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Glyn Prysor, discuss the impact of a battlefront which was "one of the most horrific, one of the most frightening places in the world".
