'This will be Conte's last season at Chelsea, whatever happens'
New York Times chief soccer correspondent Rory Smith believes there is “an understanding that this will be Conte’s last season at Chelsea whatever happens”.
The Italian won the Premier League in his first season in English football, but Chelsea’s title defence got off to a shambolic start as they finished with nine men in a 3-2 home defeat to Burnley at the weekend.
The former Juventus boss signed an improved deal at Stamford Bridge over the summer, but did not extend the contract.
Smith says that Conte has always made clear his stay in West London would be a “short-term thing”.
