What are unexpected resort fees?
If you book a hotel for a trip to the United States, you may find the price quoted is only part of the story. By the time taxes and a mysterious charge called ‘resort fees’ are added, it could cost a lot more than you expected when you come to check out. These charges are compulsory, but are rarely included in the headline price online. Melanie Abbott talks to Simon Calder, the Independent’s Travel Editor.
