Liz Bates used to work at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office and has recently been studying hundreds of police rape case files at the Centre for Gender and Violence Research at Bristol University.

She told Radio 4's PM the "most serious element of false allegation cases...is potentially deterring real victims".

She added that it was "critical" for the police and the public to not see victims with more than one complaint as "inherently false or less credible".
